Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the worst mother of them all?
Glass, wood, 2024
80 cm x 194 cm
Consisting of eight engraved glass panels, the engraved drawings show hybrid female creatures suggesting a desire to devour the small children near them. The panels are arranged in a symmetry, albeit with subtle differences: Two figures appear to resemble each other, but on closer inspection there are subtle differences. The children themselves seem to change roles in the reflections - sometimes they are the prey, sometimes they become monsters, blurring the lines between innocence and monstrosity. The delicate medium of glass underscores the vulnerability and tension within this cycle, evoking the complex, often taboo dynamics of care and transformation within the maternal figures.
